The UIC Experience

The University of Illinois at Chicago, also known as UIC, has a remarkable campus with a significant amount of history and a beautiful atmosphere. The campus is surrounded by a numerous of buildings with historical background. The atmosphere brings a relaxing sensation to students.
UIC started in the late nineteenth century when the private health colleges were built. Overall, the different parts of the university were created in different periods. No later than the year 1998, UIC became the largest university in Chicago. The university enrolled 25,000 students in the 15 colleges. The oldest building on campus is the Hull House built in 1856; however, the newest and most modern buildings are the Douglas Hall, Grant Hall, and Lincoln Hall. Having classes in these buildings become one of the best places to have your course due to the pleasant atmosphere. A renovation was completed in the campus by increasing the amount of colleges by the year 1994. UIC gained the schools of education, graduate studies, social work, urban planning, and public affairs.
Each building in campus contains a piece of history that makes UIC an extraordinary place. For example, the Richard Daley J. Daley Library has a strong part in the lives of UIC students. It gives the opportunity for students to study, relax, and work together on homework. Throughout the campus, the library is full of students and professors on the computers or desks working. UIC’s mission is to provide a wide range of students with educational opportunity only a leading research university can offer. I believe the library follows through this mission with the tremendous amount of research inside. Another important building is the University Hall also known as the U-Hall. The U-Hall is a 28 story office tower. Each floor consists of offices that are focused on a subject like math and english. You can go there to get help or talk to your professor or teacher assistant.

Nevertheless, the environment on the campus brings people around to bond and to study. The environment in campus can bring an enjoyable time to be with friends due to the space available for them to hang out. Walking around the university, you can personally experience the different kind of events. Students on all sides of UIC are being proactive creating it a peaceful place. It is a comfortable place to be in when you are encircled by diverse students that get along without any problems. On campus there are multi-cultural events that can easily catch the attention of students like the Taste of UIC and the Cultural Showcase. The events help create knowledge that transforms our views of the world as stated by the UIC mission statement.
Overall, after being in UIC for several weeks, you feel more comfortable with being on campus. You meet new people that are easy to get along with. You also discover the beauty of the campus. Even though it is old, it’s clean and peaceful. The University of Illinois at Chicago is a remarkable campus that provides an impressive atmosphere and history.
